Baby Update....

A very long story, extremely condensed.

I Wasn't getting good care (or any care at all for that matter) for the bacterial infection from the homeopathic midwife who will deliver the baby. After a little "test" scare, I ended up at the OBGYN that I use to see in the beginning of my pregnancy. What a blessing that the test scare sent me there. He was able to pin-point and treat the every-growing bacterial infection that has been plaguing me. He put me on 3 types of strong medicines and I should be improving in no time. He was VERY (and I stress the word VERY) concerned about the contractions (especially since I had a bad episode on Wednesday and Thursday morning). He also gave me a medicine to take if I have 4 contractions in an hour. If they don't stop after that, then I need to go to be monitored at the hospital. He said I might be spending some time there. I hope not. I am still confident that the contractions WILL stop once the infection is treated and cleared. So...for now, he put me on partial bed-rest. I can be up for a few hours and down for a few hours. He said I can ONLY be an observer in the moving process and NO exercise. However, if things improve (and I am praying that they will quickly) then I can resume life as normal.

I came home crying, because tomorrow John is starting 14 LONG days and essentially won't be around and I have a house to pack, 4 kids to raise and yet I have to spend most of my time in bed essentially with ZERO help (we had to fire the nanny, but I do have a lady to clean once a week). It's almost laughable to think of the "restrictions," but God is so able to do MIGHTY things in this situation and I am depending on Him now more than ever. It is definitely increasing my faith and dependence on Him! I know that He can make the kids obey, the contractions stop and they days be smoother than ever. I'm so expectant (in more ways than one). :)

Tomorrow I will have my blood glucose test that I guess I should've had at 26 weeks. That is kind of my fault because I didn't really want to have it so wasn't pushing it with the other doctor. Also, he ordered a 4-D ultrasound because he thinks it has been long enough without seeing this little guy and wants to get another check that things are progressing properly (last one was 18 weeks). :) So, I am super excited to see Mile's cute little face on Monday - even if I have to drag four kids with me.

As for the delivery, I am still planning to go with the midwife at home as long as there are ZERO issues with the baby or pre-term labor. I will continue to see the OBGYN to make sure that everything is fine with me. I trust him VERY much. I just prefer to have a homebirth and the midwife is a means to an end (sorry to be so blunt, but that is kind of how I see it). But if ANYTHING changes I would definitely deliver in a hospital. I would NOT do ANYTHING to put the baby at risk. Just wanted to reassure you. Blessings and goodnight!

Banging Update

The sledgehammers started this morning at 8:30 a.m. SHARP! That is EARLY - especially for Latin time. We called the portero (the doorman) because Miraflores rules, for an apartment, supposedly say they can't start until 9 a.m. Trust me, it is THAT bad that even a half an hour makes a difference. And you can FORGET about naptime! It goes on constant until 5 or 6 p.m. You can't even hear the tv or radio over all of the banging unless you have them blaring. Anyway, the doorman told them they needed to go home and that they can't work because tomorrow is a holiday (their independence day) and here in Peru most people are off Mon-Wed. of this week. So, the workers took off and now we have 3 more days of silence! I'm sure they will be ready to go first thing on Thursday morning. And now the project will just be dragged out for 3 more days. Oh well! :) Peace for now!

We had 2 baptisms in consecutive weeks out in Oasis! Praise God! So many works are starting that I am almost overwhelmed for John. He willl be resting and doing as little as possible this week b/c we have 2 more teams back to back starting on Friday night and he will be working 12-14 hour days for like 15 days straight. Please pray for him and for us!!! I am going to sit the next 2 teams out. That was not the original plan, but once again we decided it was best for our entire family.

We packed one whole room up tonight - our storage room/maid's quarters. It is nice and organized and ready to be moved. YEAH!! It feels so good to have started. 1 down and MANY more to go. We are hoping to get a little bit done this week while we are both.

Still waiting on the results of my bacteria infection. I made it through the weekend without so much suffering. A local pharmacist gave me something and it actually has helped ease the inflammation and pain! YEAH! Once again, I am having a bunch of contractions today. I let John feel my belly everytime so he can confirm that it is as hard as a rock from them. Tonight he said, "Are you going to go into labor?" I sure hope not. I am really sure once the infection gets treated that these will go away. They are just annoying more than anything.

We had 2 days of "no banging" in our apartment, but we know it will start up first thing tomorrow morning from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. with no breaks. It is 3 sledgehammers tearing up tile on the 9th floor. It might as well be in our own apartment it is so loud. So many people in the building are complaining and saying it is an "abuse." It started at 9 a.m. yesterday morning, but a few of the neighbors called the city to complain and then within a half and hour the noise stopped. Praise God!

Hope you all have a blessed week!

Goodbye to our Pastors and 30 week update!

This morning we said goodbye to the pastors. It was wonderful to have them here and I know that John was especially encouraged to be able to share his strategy, vision and daily duties with both of them. They gave a lot of good insights, asked questions and helped with some ideas. And did I mention that they spoiled us like crazy and really loved and encouraged us? It was WONDERFUL!!!!! We will miss them a lot. They are planning on bringing a team next summer. YEAH!!!

So...back to the contractions. Well, I was suppose to have my 30 week appointment on Monday, but I called the doctor this morning and she moved it to today because of a possible bacteria infection. There isn't really a doubt that I have an infection, it's just trying to determine what kind and how to treat it. Usually I am plagued with Group B strep and then it colonizes in my bladder and then my kidneys. If you ask me, that is probably the bacteria that I am battling once again (but praise God, the first time in this pregnancy). So, I had the appointment today and she really believes all the contractions I have had this week are coming from the infection. She said that over 50% of pre-term babies are born to mom's with infections. Oddly enough, I read the same thing on the internet just last night. She did a few lab tests and sent me home with herbal teas, soaps and some homemade stuff that has so far, only irritated the life out of me. I'm sorry, just send me to the pharmacy and get me some meds! :) I should know on Monday the results of the labs and how to best beat this bacteria to ensure the baby stays in for the full 40 weeks and that I feel good.

I had to do the DREADED weigh in this month after eating out with Pastor Steve and Cary ALL week and not exercising. I was dreading it. I only gained 1.4 kilos in 4 weeks - which is about 3 lbs. I gained the exact same last month so I was happy to see that I was up 6 lbs. in 8 weeks. But get this? She thinks that 1 lb. a week is TOO much. LOL! Doesn't like every pregnancy book tell you that you will gain 1 lb a week in the last trimester? Interesting. I think my overall gain is 21 or 22, but I started out 5-10 lbs. heavier than previous pregnancies (depending on which pregnancy we are talking about). So, I will definitely have to work hard to get the 30-35 off after the baby comes. Oh well, praise God for the Disney Marathon and Weight Watchers online to help!

The baby's head is completely down and he measured 28 weeks instead of 30, but that is because his head has moved into position. She didn't seem concerned about the 2 week difference that only showed up once his head dropped a bit. Trust me, I knew before the appointment that he had snuggled, head down, very comfortably!

On to house news. We went to the mission house that we will be moving into. I forgot how huge it is. The pastors helped me pick out what walls should be accent walls. That was really fun and funny. Pastor Steve would say one thing and I would be like "okay, maybe" and then Pastor Cary would walk in and say the exact same thing and I would be like "yes, definitely." LOL! I just think Cary has the decorator's touch and I seemed to trust his opinion as the authority. We were all laughing.

The missionaries who are living there now said their stuff will be loaded up to ship out on August 1 and that they were going to try to get out of the house as soon as possible. So, it could be SOONER than we had planned! YEAH!!!! I will keep you updated. We are hoping for the first week in September, but it could really be in August.

The only other thing I have to mention is the constant banging in our building. It is ALL day EVERY day and really hard to deal with. It is impossible to take naps or rest and it is just downright disruptive. They said it will go on for 2 more months -if I don't throw their jackhammers out of the window first. I am SOOO glad we are moving SOOON!

Miss you all and blessings! We are very encouraged and feeling good right now. We praise God for sending Pastor Steve and Cary. It was PERFECT!

So loved

3:30 a.m. insomnia. UGH! It's now 4:05 a.m. I gave up laying in the darkness. :)

We have had 1.5 awesome days with Pastor Steve and Pastor Carey so far. We have done a lot of sight-seeing, talking and eating. It has been a great source of encouragement for us. Tomorrow we are spending most of the day in our ministry area showing them what we do and more importantly, what God is doing. I think we are all looking forward to the day.

Some of my friends from the church sent some baby gifts for our growing little man. Last night we did a little baby-shower in a suit-case. As I opened the presents and the cards I was just filled with emotion. To know that people, my friends, from my home church had spent the time to buy the baby gifts, and write BEAUTIFUL notes, was overwhelming. To touch something that they had touched, written on and picked out for us was so special. So there I was with 3 men, opening my gifts and crying my eyes out for a good 15 minutes. It was so special and funny. I think I am the first woman to have a baby shower in a suit-case with 3 men! :) I felt so very, very loved! Gifts are my love language anyway, but this was just super, duper great! :)

On to other news.....on Monday, I probably had no less than 20 braxton hicks contractions that lasted about 30 seconds each, but did not come in any sort of pattern. It was just ALL day, on and off, and mainly when I was on my feet. I drank a ton of water, but they still kept coming. Yesterday, I had about 7ish, so that was an improvement. I made sure to continue to drink a lot of water. I read on the internet that they are normal, but I feel like I am having A LOT more than I should be. I would think 1-3 a day would be okay, as my body prepares for the task ahead of me in about 10 weeks. Next Monday I have my OBGYN appointment, so I will definitely consult with her and see what she says. Of course, if she says rest, rest, rest, I will just have to laugh b/c this house isn't going to get packed up with me in the bed! :) I'm sure everything is fine, but I am just a tad bit alarmed by the number of them. I did have 1 day of contractions when I was 19 weeks pregnant, but NOTHING again until this Monday. I mention that so that you can pray they will subside as we venture on to packing and moving very soon.

Well, I should sign off and try to go back to sleep if that is possible. I am so tired, but my body just won't shut down. The joys of pregnancy! This little guy is worth it!!!

Good night, or good morning, however you want to look at it!

So What's Up?

On Saturday, we said good-bye to our 2nd mission team of the summer. I didn't spend as much time with them as the other teams, but I definitely got to know a few of the women from the 2 days we (the kids and I) went with them and the supper we shared together. I found myself getting teary-eyed once again! The good-byes are just never ending and they don't seem to be getting any easier. We meet someone, love them to death and then in a week they are gone! I know this is part of God's plan for our lives right now, but boy does it hurt! Today we had to say good-bye to a volunteer, Pavel, who has been here since the middle of May. To say that my children have fallen for him is an understatement. We spent a TON of time doing ministry with him, having fellowship and eating together. Jaxson was the most attached to him. It was another sad goodbye, as we know we won't see him for at least a year. He is one of our favorite people (he is a Peruvian married to an American girl).

Anyway, today Pastor Steve and Pastor Carey from our home church, First Baptist St. Cloud (Florida), will be flying in to visit us! YEAH! I think I am so super excited about this visit. They are just coming to love on us, see the ministry and spend some great time encouraging us and getting to know our lives here. They are super cool men of God and a taste from home! We are very excited about this time we have with them.

So what's going on here?
Fleas, fleas and more fleas! We are fighting them like crazy, but they are determined to eat the flesh of Jaxson, Avery and John! It's a never-ending battle. John is really getting frustrated and feeling so tired of working in the areas that are flea infested. Please pray for direction on how to beat these buggers. Nothing is working!

Ally came down with a bladder infection and I took her to the local clinic by myself with 4 kids yesterday. The entire 3 hours was in Spanish and I did it. She was successfully treated and released without a word of English! Praise God! She is feeling a little bit better today and isn't screaming every time she has to use the bathroom. Her fever is gone, so far!

I am doing well. I am almost 30 weeks. The main problem is that I am having terrible insomnia and using the restroom 10-15 times EACH night. That is excessive! Last night was only 5 times, so I slept a little better. This morning I have had about 10 contractions in just a few hours time span, so I am drinking some water and resting on the couch to help them subside. I probably have not had enough to drink. I wouldn't say they are super painful. I would use the word moderate! :)

Well, the kids are getting hungry (kind of a priority, you know) so I better sign off now. Hopefully the contractions won't start again as soon as I stand up and start working. :)

2 more hours until the pastors are here!!!! YEAH!!!

I wrote a nice little paragraph about ministry and it got deleted and I couldn’t get it back.

29 weeks and counting! 11 more to go! I think I can, I think I can!

About 29 weeks pregnant! Wow, has this little guy grown A LOT in the past 4 weeks! More pictures from the week to come.

So much to write, so little time to do it! God is working, working, working. I put some ministry pictures up on Facebook if you would like to see them. Hopefully I can write more tomorrow!

Follow-up to yesterday's prayer request

Thank you for praying for the man from our church. John and I did not sleep very well or very much last night. I had terrible dreams of him being kidnapped, beaten, murdered, etc.... and pretty much had convinced myself that his fate would not be good. Well, John called his home at 7 a.m. this morning only to find out that he arrived home at 1 a.m. last night - yes, after his wife was looking for him at hospitals and had contacted the police. He told John he had an "incident."

Well, today John grilled him and he said that he just got caught up working (he drives a taxi), had a flat tire and an electrical problem and was stuck in the middle of nowhere (hard to be in the middle of nowhere in Lima). He said he just "lost track of time." He lost track of 10 hours? HUH?

Needless to say I am very suspicious. John grilled him and his excuses were exactly what I wrote above. This is the man who is suppose to be taking over as Pastor. Only God knows what really happened yesterday, but it is quite odd for a man to be gone from 7 a.m. - 1 a.m. the next day with no contact to his wife, who was hysterical.

Sorry to alarm you all last night. Thank you for praying!

URGENT PRAYER!!! URGENT!!!

Please pray for one of our church leaders in Oasis. He has been leading Bible study and the services for the past 2 months. He is marred to a woman named Miriam and they have a 1 1/2 year old daughter named, Abigail. He left for work at 7 a.m. this morning in his mototaxi and has not returned or called. He was suppose to lead church tonight at 4:30 (we had a special service planned and he was super excited and ready) and had told his wife he would be home by 3 p.m.. He has yet to return home and the wife has not heard a peep from him. This is not like him at all and nothing like this has ever happened before. The wife is now at his parents house waiting and worrying. They have called the police. Please pray he will return safely. Please pray for peace for the family. Please pray for protection if he is in danger. Please just pray, pray, pray! We are so concerned. This is a very, strong Christian man and leader and the entire situation is very strange and concerning.

Check out the cute little baby link at the bottom of this page and the funny humor that comes along with it!!!!! :)

Jess

The church has walls

The men of our church built wood poles and put a put a blue tarp for a roof over our lot in Oasis. Then, the men built walls to encase the front side of the church. The backside is enclosed by walls from other house. 3 males leaders spent 4 days doing this work and the money came from the tithe that we have collected since January. The Peruvians have done the work and paid for this "building." I use the term building loosely. :) Pictures to come! It's very exciting!

The mom's group has stopped for many reasons. The main one being that I don't have the 10-12 hours that is required each week to put into this ministry. Now that I am 7months (on Sat.) and in my 3rd trimester, I just don't have the extra time or energy to devote to this. It is sad, but John and I felt this was best. We know God directed us to start it, but we felt a freedom to put it on hold for now.

We have a new team coming on Saturday night. I will be joining them a few afternoons "with the kids." We think this is best for our family.

Please pray against fleas and lice as we have been battling itchy heads (no lice seen) and a crazy flea infestation again. No sooner than we get it cleared up, we our out in the poor areas again collecting more fleas!

Please pray for our family. I am tired. The kids are going stir crazy in a little apartment and no vehicle most days and John is REALLY busy with the teams. We have a house that needs to get ready for us to move into, a lot of packing, organizing, etc...and a lot on our plate. We are doing well, but I would be lying if I said I didn't feel overwhelmed at the sheer thought of it all. I am SOOOOOO ready to be in the house. I am counting down the days. The family that is in there will leave August 31. :) The house has to be painted and 2 bathrooms are being remodeled. We are going to move in, however, as soon as the painting is done. If the couple allows it, we will start the painting earlier than the 31st. It will take 2 weeks for the house to be painted, but we are going to move in after the top floor (with all the bedrooms) is painted and we will deal with living in the bottom while they are painting. We don't want to risk not being settled when the baby is born. :) Especially since we are having a homebirth! :)

Thanks for praying!
