So I started hunting online for things "A 4 year old needs to know" since I want to work with Avery some every day. Check out this list as it might surprise you.......

I agree with this list wholeheartedly! I realize I am not the norm but it makes me sad to see so many competitive parents.

Jess, Just remember that there are a thousand different groups that have a thousand different ideas about what a 4 year old needs to know. I've found that all of my children were way ahead of their ideas in some areas and way behind in others. We moms need to remember not to let others' opinions dictate this. (Kind of like Miles' neck strength issues.)

I took time to check your link and its links, now. They are right on the money! This is the basic jist of what I've been trying to tell others and keep having to remind myself of on a regular basis. They did a much better job of saying it! It is late so I'm going to put looking at the links closer on tomorrow's list. It is HARD to make myself homeschool my little ones (through grade school age is my attitude for this method) this way because it is very counter cultural here in America.

Jess, I loved it, and I'm not even a mom. But I'm a very ambitious aunt who may need to back off a bit when my little one gets an entire education in only a week!

I LOVE this list! And totally agree with it! I have become so relaxed in some ways with school and the kids are doing so much better and ENJOYING it so much more! They always have a book in their hand now and Ethan has been reading a book a day for the past week!!! There is so much we can push into their little brains, but I would so much rather that the main thing that stick- if not the only thing- is their love for God and that they know and recognize HIS love for them! Thanks for sharing. I will admit that I would imagine it is easier to take this approach living outside of the US, but as you and I know there are always opportunities for things like swimming or ballet or whatever when you live near a big city. It was really hard for me to die to the desires I had for my kids to do all those things, but God is good and growing in them a desire to serve him no matter where He calls or what He calls them to...even as young as they are- and nothing could make me more proud of them! Go on AVERY, PLAY all day and look at all she learns at the end of the day!!! :)
